Who he was
- An Apology for Christian Philosophy which he addressed to ‘temporal rulers.’
- Against the Greeks, in two books.
- Against the Jews, also in two books.
- Against the Montanists deals with the question That a Prophet Should not Speak in Ecstasy, and explains that the Montanistic prophets were pseudo-prophets.
- Against the Valentinian Gnostics is another anti-heretical treatise of Miltiades.
What he wrote
- He was a Greek Christian apologist from Asia Minor.
- A contemporary of Tatian, he was, most probably, also a pupil of St. Justin.
- His works are lost but are described by later writers such as Eusebius, St. Jerome, and Tertullian.
- Tertullian (adv. Valentin. 5) names him with St. Justin the Martyr and Irenaeus as a writer against heresy, giving him the appellation, evidently in an honorable sense,“Sophista Ecclesiarum.”
