What is the role of the priest or bishop in offering sacrifices?

Origen combines the apostolic and the priestly definitions of the Christian ministry when he says: “The apostles and their successors, priests according to the great High Priest … know from their instruction by the Spirit for what sins, and when, and how, they must offer sacrifice.”
