What is grief according to God and grief according to the world? (cf. 2 Cor.7:10).

St. Basil the Great answers, “ Grief according to God is when we grieve over the neglect or transgression of the commandment of God, as it is written: Grief has seized me because of sinners who forsake your law (Ps. 118:53), but it is grief according to the world when we are grieved over some aspect of human affairs or of those things which pertain to the world.”¹⁴⁶⁷
