What is required of those who wish to be baptized?

For adults, they are asked to have true faith with sincere repentance and to be able to recite the Orthodox Creed. In the past, when people heard the word of God, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do? Peter said to them, “Repent and let every one of you baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:37–38). The Gospel says, “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16).
