What does it mean that Jesus Christ was crucified for our sake?
Q361 · Our Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of the World
By His death on the cross, we are saved from sin, the curse, and death. The apostle Paul says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence” (Eph. 1:7–8). Of the curse he says, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’” (Gal. 3:13). As for death it was said: “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Heb. 2:14–15).
