Divine Providence emerges in the cooperation between the Holy Trinity, for the sake of human salvation, our flourishing in the life of godliness, and our knowledge and enjoyment of the eternal inheritance. God the Father loved humanity and gave His only Son for us. The Son was pleased to be crucified and to die for our sake, so that we could live the resurrected life. And the Holy Spirit sanctifies, renews, and offers gifts in order to transform the believer, to imprint upon him the icon of the Heavenly Bridegroom.
Just as the Holy Trinity participated in creation, so also the Trinity continues to tend the creation. The Psalmist chants saying, “Who is like the Lord our God, who dwells on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things [the lowly] that are in the heavens and in the earth? He raises the poor out of the dust … He grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children” (Ps. 113:5–9). And in the New Testament, the Lord Jesus says, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working” (John 5:17). He also says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered … you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matt. 10:29–31).
