What did Moses ask of God regarding service when he first encountered Him?

Q172 · Faith in God and Our Knowledge of Him

Moses asked of God that he might know His name. Moses was the first leader of God's people in the Old Testament, and as their representative God revealed to him that His name is “Jehovah,” which means, “I Am.” What does this name, “I Am,” mean? It means that He exists, working for His chosen people — in contrast to the Greek religions, which often held God to be a lofty being too distant to care about the world’s trivial affairs.
