What should a believer do if he asks someone to do something and that person wants to challenge that request?

Q1211 · The Virtue of Obedience

  • a. We ought not to ask others to obey us without dialogue and explanation. God Himself opened the door of dialogue with Abraham, who felt that the act of destroying Sodom and Gomorrah was unbefitting of a just God (Gen. 18:25).
  • b. We ought to give our children and subordinates the opportunity to dialogue with us in the spirit of love, so that they might feel our appreciation for their personalities as people who have the right to argue with their parents. We ought not to expect them to submit with blind obedience, as if they were irrational beings.
